LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

One more legislative day!  This Monday, May 19, the Alabama Legislature will reconvene for its last day of the 2008 Legislative Session.  Several bills are pending in both the House and the Senate that of great concern to those of us in the faith community.  Please look over the following list and contact your Representative and/or Senator and encourage him/her to vote on these bills in the manner suggested below.  To find your Legislator's contact information, click here and then type in your 9-digit zip code.
 

In the SENATE

 
Ask your Senator to vote "YES" on the following bills:
 
HB 76, Fite, Obscene material to a child penalty.
HB77, Dunn, Ignition interlock device.
HB 90, Graham, Student suicide prevention.
HB 92, Millican, Soliciting child for sexual conduct penalty.
HB 174, Hurst, Drivers suspension for drug and alcohol offenses.
HB 276, Ison, Sex offenders restricted on college property.
HB 332, Galliher, Criminal sex offenders penalty.
 
Ask your Senator to vote "NO" on the following bills:
 
HB 196, Jackson, Higher alcohol content in beer.
HB 393, Martin, Eliminate municipal population requirement wet/dry.
HB 829, Holmes, Hate crime bill includes sexual orientation.
 
 

In the HOUSE

 
Ask your Representative to vote "YES" on the following bills:
 
SB 110, Penn, Criminal sex offenders penalty.
SB 229, Figures, Clean indoor air.
SB 245, Mitchem, Sex offenders restricted on college property.
SB 400, Bishop, Electronic bingo prohibited in Walker County.
SB 401, Bishop, Electronic bingo prohibited in Jasper.

We are glad that you have found our website!  As you navigate through this site, you will find information and links that will be helpful to pastors, Bible study teachers and concerned citizens as you prepare sermons, lessons or just seek to be knowledgeable about the issues facing our society and culture.  We have put various links right here on our home page that will lead you to many more resources.
 
On our "Education" page you will find a list of the modules that we teach in our school programs and a form that you can submit online to request one of our programs in your school.  If you would be interested in being trained and equipped to serve as a member of our teaching team in the schools in your area, please e-mail, call or write us using the contact information found throughout our website.
 
On the "Pending Legislation" page, you will find a list of what churches and pastors can and cannot do politically in order to maintain their tax-exempt status and links that will help you find your state and federal representatives and senators.  Also, during the Alabama Legislative Session each year we will use that page to keep you updated concerning the various bills that we are tracking.
 
Be sure to check out our "Current Issues" page on a regular basis.  Here you will find articles from a number of news outlets that address some of the moral issues facing our culture.
 
Alabama needs ALCAP!  Together with the churches and concerned Christians of Alabama, and following the principles of God's Word, we are seeking to be "Alabama's Moral Compass!"
